Return to Liberty

July 2, 2019

I just finished this painting last night. It's hard for me to sit back and watch people, especially children, suffer.

We need to be better. Individually, together, as a country, as a whole. These people at our border deserve better. They spend everything they have, running for their lives from their own countries, to seek asylum in the US and then be locked into cages and denied basic human rights. It's unbelievable. It's appalling.

‘Return to Liberty’ is a painting that represents welcoming and helping people of all nations, preferences and abilities. Lady Liberty is shown reaching down and grabbing hands to lift people out from behind bars. Behind her are lines from the sonnet The New Colossus, which read “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses…” and there are symbols of different nations and cultures throughout the painting as well as symbols of peace, love, and unity. Rings throughout the painting are representative of the fact that we are all connected.

I have prints of this painting on the way. They are 12" x 12", and $30. All proceeds from the prints will be donated to Save the Children. They are doing really great things down at the border, providing health care and legal aid to children and families. They are also providing transit shelters for care after release from border control. I would love for you to consider helping me raise some money for them! And get an awesome art print! Please send me a message or email if you'd like a print and I will get an invoice sent out ASAP!

Thanks everyone!
